Your OC Attorney - Opening Statements
My original motivation for pursuing a career in Law has remained steadfast; to do everything in my power to guarantee everyone has a voice. My clients come to me for assistance in determining their legal options. In most cases, people want for someone to listen to them and allow the opportunity for someone to empathize with their personal perspective. I make an active effort to listen and really absorb the intricacies of information.
Some of my peers in the criminal law community spend more time talking over their clients and trying to shorn the complexities of the case for the sake of brevity. Each client presents a unique set of circumstances that requires a full range of exploration.
I have absolutely zero interest in cookie-cutter, paint-by-numbers law. Commoditizing potentially life-changing legal challenges by taking the road of least resistance means that we effectively place a muzzle on the legal process. I prefer something a bit more assertive, like maybe a bullhorn connected to a 125 watt per channel PA system. My wife likes to remind me that I lack subtlety.
Some details of the Law fall within the overreaching precept that The Human Condition does not facilitate a palate of black and white. Instead, we live in a world of halftones: a value halfway between a highlight and a dark shadow. The world can be very grey, but our law system does establish some very concrete, inalienable rights. There is a basic framework that justice affords everyone involved in the legal process. I am passionate about the law and making sure that each of my client’s rights are observed and treated with the care and respect they deserve.
This blog will contain my thoughts on a variety of law-related subject matter. As a practicing Criminal Attorney, you can expect content that leans heavily in that particular direction. As in any profession, there are positives and negatives that influence my thoughts on happenings within our legal system. I’ll share my opinions and offer tangible support documentation whenever practical. This is where my background in print journalism will hopefully begin to pay for itself.
This blog will be my voice in the digital realm. Expect to see me exploring a variety of web-based channels in the months ahead. Cyberspace offers all of us a chance to reach out and absorb a wide variety of information. Getting information into people’s hands is an empowering process that I strongly advocate.
To be clear, this blog is more than just my soapbox. I actively solicit feedback as well as suggestions on topics that you’d like to see discussed If you have a specific legal situation that you’re working through, I encourage you to give my office a call so that you may receive a complementary consultation. A public blog is not an appropriate forum for these situations.
I hope you will share in my journey.
